Evangelist Mary Lee Carr departed this life on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the Willow Terrace Nursing Home on Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born March 26, 1943 in Chadburn, North Carolina to the late Mavella Nixon and Otis Nixon.

Mary grew up in Whiteville, North Carolina and was nurtured and raised by her Aunt Levoussie Stanley. She received her education in the Public School System of Whiteville, North Carolina. At an early age, Mary loved caring for others. As a result, she pursued a career in Nursing and Childhood Development.

Upon graduating from High School, she moved to Washington, D.C. She accepted the Lord into her life in 1961 in the home of Pastor Salley B. Strader, where she served faithfully. She accepted the call to ministry and delivered her trial message in 1964.
God directed her to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1965. She visited several churches until the Lord directed her to join Christian Tabernacle COGIC in 1972, under the pastoral leadership of the late Bishop R. T. Jones, Sr., and Mother R. T. Jones. Both Bishop and Mother Jones influenced her prayer life and study of the Word of God.

Evangelist Carr attended the Jamison Bible School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She later became an ordained Elder in the COGIC International on July 27, 1974. During her years of service at Christian Tabernacle, Evangelist Carr assisted Mother Jones faithfully and steadfastly as a Prayer Warrior in the “Monday Night Hour of Prayer” and for many years in the monthly consecration and shut-in prayers.

Evangelist Carr has held various positions of leadership thought the years of her Christian Pilgrimage. She has served as President of the Elders & Evangelist Board, Advisor to Evangelist Board. After all is said and done, she preferred to be known as “God’s Humble Servant”. In June 2006, Evangelist Carr became part of Mount Moriah Pentecostal Church Family and continued to serve God until her sickness. She was President of the Minister’s Board, Coordinator of Holy Convocation and Leader of the Overnight Prayer.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Carr and her sister, Mableleane Duren. Left to cherish fond memories of her, Gracie Nixon (stepmom) of Durham, North Carolina, Jason Maxwell (adopted son) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, four brothers: Nathaniel Pringle (Jean) of Leland, North Carolina, Otis Nixon of Atlanta, Georgia, Donell Nixon of Atlanta, Georgia, and Coleman Graham of Evergreen, North Carolina, two sisters: Barbara McCrackin of Chicago, Illinois and Beverly Dukes of Durham, North Carolina, Joseph Duren (brother-in-law) of Temple Hills, MD and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
