ary Theresa Cronin, nee Himmelberg, 90, a 22-year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis and previously of District Heights, died peacefully at her home September 4. Mary was born October 22, 1920 in Washington DC. She graduated from St. Cecelia’s High School in 1938 and Wilson Teacher’s College in 1942. She began teaching in 1942 at Capitol Heights Elementary School and worked until her marriage in 1948 to the late William J. Cronin. Mary resumed her teaching career in 1966 at Mount Calvary Elementary School in Forestville, retiring in 1986. Mary was an active parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis where she was a member of the Legion of Mary and Allies. Previously, she was a parishioner at Mt. Calvary Catholic Church and later at Church of the Holy Spirit, both in Forestville. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling, square dancing and jigsaw puzzles. Her most precious moments though were spent with her family and she never missed an event or occasion that involved her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband who died in 1998, Mary was predeceased by three brothers, Theodore, Adam and Joseph Himmelberg and three sisters, Joanna Himmelberg, Margaret Grim and Rita Thibadeau. She is survived by four sons, William Cronin, Jr. of Pass Christian, MS, Michael Cronin of Arnold, MD, Timothy Cronin of East Point, GA and Joseph Cronin of Washington, DC; and three daughters, Mary Ann Cronin of Washington, DC and Catherine Cronin and Julie Cronin McHale, both of Annapolis. Also survived by nine grandchildren, James, Danielle, Adelaide and Sophie Cronin; Joseph, Vincent, Colin and Matthew McHale; Stacy Williams; and three great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Mary’s Life Celebration on Thursday, September 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 9 at10:30 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat), 71 "O" Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
