n January 1, 2017, Mary Louise Boyer Hackley, 87, of Palm Bay, FL and formerly of Laurel, MD, and Waynesboro, VA, passed away peacefully at her residence due to complications of congestive heart failure. Born on August 9, 1929, in Allentown, PA to the late Albert and Helen Boyer, Mary Lou was a teacher and homemaker who enjoyed her family. She moved to Florida in 2001 from Laurel, MD and was a member of Midport Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Port Saint Lucie, FL. Mary Lou believed in the importance of Christian Education, graduating from Shenandoah Valley Academy, Class of 1947, and exposing all of her children to the Christian school experience. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Leigh Hackley; her brothers, Donald Boyer, and Dale Boyer. She is survived by her children, Sharon McCabe of Hayesville, NC, Steven Hackley, of Palm Bay, FL, Mark Hackley, of Waynesboro, VA and Kathy Shubert, of Carol Stream, IL; her siblings, Barbara Fishel of Longwood, FL and Bruce Boyer of Altamonte Springs, FL,; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 12 at 11:30 am at Annapolis Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1996 Generals Highway, Annapolis, MD. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd, Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waynesboro SDA Church Memorial Fund, 1700 Lyndhurst Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980, so that underprivileged children will be able to attend SDA schools in the Shenandoah Valley.
