Mary Harris - Obituary

ary Harris was born in Edgefield, SC on October 20, 1922, the oldest of 7 children. Mary married Ellsworth Harris (deceased) on October 18, 1942. They were happily married for 66 years. From this beautiful union, they had four children...Ellsworth Jr. (deceased), Kenneth, Carl (deceased), and Marian. In 1983 Mary graduated from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) with an Associate Degree in nursing. She worked in various areas of nursing, provided a wide range of healthcare services, and devoted many years caring for those of the community and her family. Mary retired as a private duty nurse in 1990. Mary enjoyed spending most of her time with her family. She often enjoyed playing, teaching, and nurturing her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, etc. She always gave her unconditional love, patience, discipline, and lots of hugs and kisses. After a long battle with illness, Mary went to join the Lord. She peacefully departed this life at her residence in Bowie MD on January 11, 2014. The memory of her eagerness to help others and her warm smile will be cherished by many. Especially her sisters Mamie, Gloria, Eunice, children, grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. She will forever be in our hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to Mary's Life Celebraton on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 10am until time of services at 11am at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. interment will follow at Fort. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
