She volunteered many hours assisting low-income children in need. She also worked as a volunteer with children in Physical Education and The Cub Scouts. She had a passion for Home Economics and worked as a seamstress in Los Angeles, until eventually becoming a full-time homemaker after the birth of her first son. In 1969, she moved with her husband to Washington, D.C., where she has lived ever since. Mary had a passion for the theater and often attended performances at the Kennedy Center and Arena Stage. Mary was also a master chef. She loved to bake and cook everything but her specialties were gumbo and rum buns. She had a cheerful heart and was ready with a kind smile for everyone she met.
