Mary Lou Johnson - Obituary

ary Lou Johnson, age 82, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019 in Alexandria, VA. She was born on June 27, 1936 in Barre, MA to the late Earl Thomas and Christina Isabelle Funk. The family moved from Massachusetts to West Virginia. Mary graduated from High School and moved to Washington, DC to pursue a career where she met her future husband, Thomas Johnson. They were soon married and started a family. Mary enjoyed gardening in her spare time. She also enjoyed an ice cold Pepsi Cola. She was the Matriarch of the family. She was always there for anyone who needed her, in fact she spent most of her time worrying about her loved one's and being their protector if needed. Sh wanted to help her family in any way she could. Mary was preceded in death her her husband of 57 years, Thomas Johnson and her daughter, Vicki Lynn Pompell. She is survived by her daughter, Ava M. McIntire; her grandchildren, Brianna Rosenberg, Tommy and Christina Pompell; her brother, Kenneth Funk and her sister, Betty Jean Christy. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Mary's Life Celebration on Wednesday, April 17 from 6 p.m. until time of the memorial service at 7 p.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment private at a later date.
