ary Frances Joynes, “Frankie”, a 58-year resident of Annapolis, MD passed away at her home in St. Margarets on Friday, April 10 at the age of 87. Frankie was born on March 10, 1939, in Binghamton, NY to the late Dr. Francis Dennis and Mary Frances Conole. She graduated from Marywood University in Scranton, PA and moved to Northwest Washington, DC where she started teaching grades 4 through 6 in the Prince George’s County School System. She met John Joynes, a young Electrical Engineer, in 1968 on a sailing trip on Chesapeake Bay. They were married on October 19, 1968. They settled in a small bungalow in St. Margarets on Burley Creek and in November of 1973, their only child, Katie, came into their lives. Frankie worked in the Prince Georges County School system for thirty years before retiring in 1992. She and John entertained lavishly in their Annapolis home. Over the years they sponsored more than 75 Midshipmen. They enjoyed traveling on the rivers of Europe and on hired boats in the Caribbean. They owned several boats from 1968 to 2019 and cruised the Bay with the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake. She also loved playing bridge at the Annapolis Yacht Club. Mary Frances is survived by her husband, John Joynes; her daughter, Katie (Mike) Spinks; her grandchildren, Maggie, Jack and Gracie and her siblings, Kathy, Chuck, Bill, Bridget, Connie and Colleen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Conole. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 20 from 10 to 11 am with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 am at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Pkwy, Annapolis, MD. A reception will follow. Interment will be at 2 pm at Lakemont Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Davidsonville, MD. Condolences may be made by using the Memories link on this page.
