ary Helen Kalandros, age 76, a ten-year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, MD and formerly of Hollywood, MD and Silver Spring, MD, died on Thursday, June 23, at her residence. Born on March 31, 1935, in Hackensack, NJ, to the late Herman and Rose Lettich, Mary earned a B.S. degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1956, a M.A. degree from Purchase College in Purchase, NY in 1962, and a M.A. degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1965. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of the Kappa Gamma Phi Sorority. Mary was a teacher and during her career she taught in Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Montgomery County Public School system and as a resource teacher at Wheaton High School. In 1987, Mary received an award for Outstanding Contributions to Vietnamese Students, and in 1988, she received the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools award. She was a member and officer of the Agia Anna Philoptochos Society of Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, MD, where she was a founding member of the "Agia Anna Scholarship Program", to assist young people in the Parish in their academic endeavors. Mary enjoyed reading, bird watching, volleyball, soccer, and houseplant gardening, especially orchids. Mary was predeceased by her husband of thirty-seven years, Basil Kalandros, who died on August 4, 2010, and her brothers, Herman and Marco Lettich. She is survived by three nephews; Herman Joseph Lettich, Michael and Stephen Kalandros; two nieces, Tina and Barbara Papas; a grandnephew, Kevin Lettich and a grandniece, Kelley Lettich. Friends are invited to Mary's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Sunday from 4:00-7:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 27 at 10:00 AM, at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment St. Demetrios Cemetery.
