Mary M. Kupper - Obituary

ary M. Gadbaw Kupper, 91, a longtime resident of Star Hill, NC, died January 28, 2023 at her home in Beverly Beach, MD. She was born in Minneapolis, MN and moved to southern California for two years after graduating from high school and then joined the U.S. Navy and became an Operating Room Technician. That was when she met and married John Alvin Heaton and had three children. They were stationed in Queens, NY, Bermuda, Cuba, Dallas, Texas, Camp Lejeune, NC and Bethesda, MD. She eventually moved to North Carolina where she married Stanley Robert Kupper in 1976. Her hobbies included golfing, (where she was a three-time women’s champion at Star Hill GC and CC), watching Tampa Bay Ray’s Baseball, reading, bird watching and crocheting. She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her three children, Cathy Ann Heaton Hantske, Curtis Arnold Heaton and Chris Alvin Heaton, eight Grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial will be held at 1200, July 18, 2023 at the Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville, NC.
