Mary Luscko - Obituary

M

ary Luscko, 70, who had been the nutritionist for Voorhees Elementary School, Voorhees, NJ for 25 years, died November 28, 2010 at her sister’s home near Annapolis, MD. She had pancreatic cancer complicated by coronary disease. Mary Luscko and her husband moved to Smyrna, DE five years ago. They were members of St. Polycarp Catholic Church, and she volunteered in activities for the Kent County Senior Center and the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts in Dover, DE. Born and raised in the Fairmount Section of Philadelphia, she was one of six children of Jules and Stella Kijewski. She attended the old St. Hedwig Parish School near the Philadelphia Art Museum and attended Hallahan Catholic Girls High School. She was married 47 years to Peter Luscko, who died last year. Mrs. Luscko studied nutrition at Camden County Community College where she earned an associates degree and was licensed by the state as a nutritionist. She and her husband had a cabin cruiser docked at Wildwood, NJ, where they vacationed and also spent many weekends. She was an ardent fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles. Mary Luscko had a rare talent for comedy, doing daffy monologues for friends and family whenever they gathered. Her work at the elementary was a perfect fit with her love for children, who were attracted to her. She is survived by three sons, Peter Luscko and John Landick of Smyrna, DE and Michael Landick of Old Saybrook, CT; one daughter, Susan Luscko of Pennsville, NJ; a sister, Lillian Gill of Crownsville, MD; three brothers, Stanley Kijewski of West Chester, PA, Julian Kijewski of Charlotte, NC and Joseph Kijewski of Denver, CO; and six grandchildren, Tiffany Landick of Collingswood, NJ, Patricia and Stephen Landick of West Deptford, NJ, Jennifer Landick of North Carolina, and David Berle and Alexander Gentile of Pennsville, NJ. Services and burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or at www.cancer.org.
