M

ary Jane “Janie” Maggio, 75, a longtime resident of Davidsonville and previously of Lanham, died March 10, 2024, after a three-year illness. Born in Washington, DC, on March 2, 1949, to the late Glenn and Edna Woodruff, she graduated from Bladensburg High School and attended and instructed at Prince George’s Community College. In her early years, she worked for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center before spending 17 years as a dental assistant/office manager for Dr. Howard Salob. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and enjoyed camping, boating, crabbing, crafts, and crocheting. Janie especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Janie was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Pearson and Sandra Coleman. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Maggio; her children, Lisa Lyn Danna (husband Joseph, Jr.) of Gambrills and Mary Angela Beattie (husband Chad) of Severn; her sister, Glenda Harrison of Hyattsville; her grandchildren, Joey Danna (wife Jennifer), Shawn Danna (wife Cheray), Mary Katherine Beattie and Matthew Beattie; and her great-grandchildren, Kylah, Hudson, Gryffin, Callie and Rylie. A memorial gathering and celebration of Janie’s life will be held on Thursday, March 14, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, March 15, at 12 noon at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
