Mary Mattera - Obituary

ary Katherine Mattera, age 86, a forty-two year resident of Edgewater, MD, died on December 6, 2014 at her home. Born on January 23, 1928 in St. Elmo, TN to the late Charles Luther and Essie Leach Coleman, Mary graduated from Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, TN. She was a receptionist for Groover, Christie and Merritt until her retirement in 1972. Mary was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council 1384, a former volunteer at Birth Right in Annapolis and a current member of Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church, the Sons of Italy and the South County Senior Center. Her hobbies included china painting and other crafts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Charles R. Coleman, and three sisters, Aileen Vesser, Dorothy Hensley and Evelyn Nimo. She is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Rudy Mattera and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to Mary's Life Celebration on Wednesday, December 10 from 2 to 4pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, December 11 at 11am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
