ary Elizabeth Willis Owen, also known as Betty, passed into eternal peace on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, with her family at her side. She was 93.
She was a 74-year resident of Annapolis, living in the community of Annapolis Roads for over 50 years. For the last five years, she was a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Annapolis.
She was born and reared in Goldsboro, NC, and considered herself to be a Tar Heel to the end. She came to Maryland in 1942 to study nursing, where she met her future husband and life companion, David Owen.
Betty was active in the Eastport United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on or in various committees and groups. Her proudest accomplishment was contributing over 8,000 hours of volunteer service for the Anne Arundel Medical Center Auxiliary.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years; and her lifelong dear friend, Emma Lee Rouse.
She is survived by two sons, Ed (Sharon) and Mike (Anne) both of Annapolis; five grandchildren, Heather, David, Andrew, Julia, and Thomas; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until a memorial service begins at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD.
