ary D. Starr, 101, a 9-year resident of Crofton and previously of Venice, FL, died of natural causes at her home on April 4, 2012. She was born on August 15, 1910 in New York, NY where she graduated from Hunter University. Mary was the Municipal Borough Clerk and Municipal Court Clerk of Closter, NJ for 22 years and received the Municipal Clerks Association of New Jersey, Inc. award for her work. She was also recognized as a Centenarian by the State of Maryland. Mary was a Girl Scout leader for many years and a former Secretary and President of the Deborah Organization.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Francis Webster Starr, whom she married in 1935 and who died in 1983. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Noren of Crofton and Pam Markowitz of Nokomis, FL; seven grandchildren, Matthew Noren, Wendy Benson, Michelle Scholfield, Suzanne Kyre, Chrissy Clark, Cara Gilligan and Kathleen Carlson; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to Mary's Life Celebration on Wednesday, April 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, April 19 at noon at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville. Interment at a later date in Florida.
