eloved grandmother Mary Ann Brown, 90, of Edgewater, MD peacefully passed on June 20, 2024. Born on June 13, 1937 to the late Leo and Mildred McKay at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C., Mary Ann grew up in DC and lived there until marrying the love of her life, Jerry Brown. They eventually moved to Edgewater, where she lived a life full of love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. Throughout her life, Mary Ann was known for hosting the best gatherings aboard “The MaryAnn”, a Jersey Dawn 40’. She was a longtime member of the Buoy Belles at the West River Yacht Club, and participated in all of their events. She had a passion for boating, gardening, traveling, and anything with a needle and thread. Mary Ann’s skilled hands were often busy with her sewing projects, creating beautiful quilts and treasured keepsakes for her loved ones. She also volunteered her skills for the city of Annapolis alongside a group of women, the stitchers of “Annapolis Tapestries”. As a key volunteer, she hosted the group at her home every Monday, where they stitched many pieces of art including an 18th century tapestry. The group also created a kneeler for the U.S. Naval Academy, and a reproduction of the 1812 American flag, which can be found at Ft. McHenry in Baltimore, MD. When she wasn’t hard at work on tapestries, you could find Mary Ann traveling the United States by boat or car. Exploring new places brought her great happiness and cherished memories that she would then share with friends and family whenever possible. Her legacy of generosity, resilience, and compassion will live on through the countless lives she touched. While the family mourns the loss of their dear grandmother “Memaw”, they find comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all. Mary Ann will be deeply missed but never forgotten. In addition to her parents, Marry Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Brown, and her son, Michael Brown. She is survived by her beloved grandson, Matthew Brown (Kate); her great-grandsons, Luke and Owen; and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Dudley. They will all forever cherish the memories of her warm smile, gentle advice, and unconditional love. Arrangements for Mary Ann are being planned. Please take a moment to leave a condolence for the family using the Memories tab on this page.
