Mary Ann Porter - Obituary

ary Ann Green Porter, a resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis for 30 years died at home on February 27, 2023. The daughter of George G. and Mary B. Green, she was born in Philadelphia on November 16, 1932. The family moved to Cambridge, MD in 1942 where she graduated from Cambridge High School in 1949. She married Reginald S. “Tom” Porter in 1956 and the couple relocated to Hillsmere Shores in Annapolis. Mary Ann worked for the State of Maryland, Comptroller of the Treasury, Personnel Division, retiring in 1991 as Personnel Manager after 29 years of service. Mary Ann loved dogs, especially poodles and golden retrievers. She enjoyed raising her own flowers, relaxing on sandy beaches and sightseeing trips with her grandson when he was young. She also enjoyed traveling with her companion, Jim. Her favorite places to go were Ocean City, MD, Siesta Key, FL and Carroll’s Creek Café. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Pamela L. (Robert A. Smith) Porter-Smith and her beloved grandson, Dustin T. Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her long time companion of 35 years, James B. Rowland, an infant son, her sister, Marilyn G. Marr, and her former husband, Reginald S. “Tom” Porter. At her request, there will be no services.
