ary Jane Rankin, 100, a resident of Annapolis, MD since 1950, died of natural causes on Wednesday, January 27 in Gambrills, MD. Born on April 6, 1920 in Baltimore, MD to the late George L. and Mary L. Herman, Mary Jane was a 1938 graduate of Western High School and attended Washington College. During World War II, she worked at Hoschild & Kohn Department Store and volunteered as a Red Cross Nurse’s Aide at Women’s Hospital and Union Memorial Hospital. Mary Jane married James G. Rankin on October 6, 1945 and after moving to Annapolis she continued volunteering at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, the Anne Arundel County Health Department, Meals on Wheels and the St. John Neumann Library. She was a parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, president of the Hillsmere Garden Club, the Severn Town Club and KI-Wives. She also served as vice president of the League of Women Voters, was a board member of St. Mary’s Mission Church and secretary with the Angels of the Knights. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Rankin and her brother, George L. Herman, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Betty Pahr of Annapolis, MD. A graveside service will be held at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD on Tuesday, February 2 at 10 am. Condolences may be made by using the Memory Wall tab on this page.
