atthew "Matt" John Perkins, 64, a resident of Annapolis, MD, died on July 25, 2023, in Frederick, MD. Born June 15, 1959 in Elkhart, IN to the late John L. and Rosemary A. Perkins, he graduated from the Concord Special School in Bethesda, MD. Matt worked at the Marriott Corporate Headquarters and was a longtime member of the Maryland Special Olympics, Can Doers, Knights of Columbus, and was a church usher. He enjoyed bowling, WWE wrestling, miniature golf, singing the National Anthem, playing PS3, entertaining family members, and dressing up as Santa at Christmas for his nieces, nephews, and their children. Matt is survived by six siblings, Mark (Debra) Perkins of Annapolis, MD, Cathy (Jim) Kehoe of Middletown, MD, Jack (Frances) Perkins of Newport, RI, Kristie (Tim) Minor of Southport, NC, Kellie (Steve) Hefferon of Rockville, MD, and Anne (Tom) Brauch of Germantown, MD; ten nephews, Joe (Michelle) Minor, Brad (Aline) Kehoe, Chris Perkins, Rex Kehoe, Scott (Carly) Minor, Jonathan Brauch, Tyler (Michelle) Brauch, Jamie (Bre) Minor, Thomas Brauch, and Joseph Brauch; six nieces, Emily (Nathan) Rushing, Allison (Mike) Shriner, Jessica (Luan) Vieira, Melissa (Elliott) Long, Kelsey (Tim) Depin, Jessica Hefferon; and 17 great-nieces and nephews. If you've ever met Matthew, even for the briefest of moments, he inspired you and you became part of his world. He was a funny, charming, lovable, soul. His presence was an undeniable and unrelenting force to be reckoned with, and he loved being the center of attention. His spirit and beauty filled you up, and the impression he left was indelible, never to be forgotten. And so Matt, rest assured and rest in peace knowing that we will remember you in the most boisterous and joyful way. Just the way you would like it. You were special by God's design, and we will all miss you. Thank you for giving us the gift of making us all better people for having you in our lives. Friends are invited to celebrate Matthew’s life on Tuesday, August 1 from 4 to 6 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD on September 9, 2023, at 9 am. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Matthew's name may be made to Special Olympics Maryland, 3701 Commerce Drive, Suite 103, Baltimore, MD 21227.
