n Thursday, January 3, 2019 Matthew David Spannare died suddenly at his residence in Baltimore. Matt was born in Takoma Park on November 19, 1982 to Linde and David Spannare. He was a 2001 graduate of Southern High School and in 2005 graduated from the University of Maryland with a double major in criminology and sociology. Matt joined the U.S. Navy as an Engineering Aid with the Seabees and rose to the rank of Petty Officer 1st class. He was qualified as a Combat Warfare Specialist. As a member of NMCB 23, Matt was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal for meritorious service for his support of construction projects in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Matt also supported construction projects in Haiti after the 2010 hurricane. After leaving the U.S. Navy Matt became a home inspector, achieving the level of Certified Master Inspector. He enjoyed the outdoors, and spent time hiking, fishing, canoeing and target shooting. Matt’s sense of humor and easy going nature made him a friend to all. In addition to his parents, Matt is survived by his brother Ryan, sister-in-law Lindsay, and niece Reagan of Belair, MD.
