aureen Walsh, 73, of Deale and previously Annapolis, MD, passed away on March 26, 2016, at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Maryland due to complications from Agent Orange poisoning. Born on July 27, 1942 in Quincy, MA to the late Kenneth J. and Mary A. Walsh Sr., Maureen earned a Nursing Degree at St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Boston, MA; Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland and Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD. She earned two additional degrees from the Oriental Medical College of England, College of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture. Maureen served as a combat nurse in the U.S. Navy and retired at the rank of Lieutenant. One of her duty tours included 13 months in Da Nang, Vietnam. During her military career, Maureen received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, and Certificate of Appreciation from President Richard Nixon. As a civilian, Maureen was a successful business woman; she owned and managed the Marian Institute of Healing, Inc. in Annapolis. Maureen was an accomplished acupuncturist for both humans and animals, and a practitioner of holistic medicine through which she helped many Vietnam veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as other medical diseases and disorders, and women attempting to conceive. Maureen was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church where she was actively involved in the Walking with Purpose Prayer Group and the Pro-Life and Divine Mercy Ministries. She was an avid fan of all Boston sports teams and watched their games religiously. Maureen loved talking to people, especially veterans, and she counseled, guided and prayed for and with all those she met. She had a deep affection for all animals and especially loved her pet sheltie dogs, raccoons, and a stray kitten she named, Gritty, who is about 26 years old and still going strong. Maureen was the loving sister of Marilyn A. (Robert) Nelson of Norwell, MA, Ronald A. (Karen) Walsh of Mashpee, MA, and the late Kenneth J. Walsh, Jr.; sister-in-law of Anne Walsh of Scituate, MA; devoted aunt of Andrew, Kevin and Cassandra Walsh, Kathleen (David) Wooten and Elizabeth Walsh. She is also survived by two great-nieces, Katherine Martin and Maille Wooten, many cousins and good friends. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 5 from 10:00 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Covenant Community of Jesus the Good Shepherd, 1601 West Mount Harmony Road, Owings, MD. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
