M

ay Gregoria Sarmiento, 77, passed away Wednesday, January 24 at her home in Fort Washington, Maryland. Born in Zambales, the Philippines in 1946, May lived in Norfolk, Virginia and London, England, where she attended South London Hospital School of Nursing, before settling in Fort Washington, Maryland. May was dedicated and driven. She enjoyed a 53-year career with numerous accomplishments in the medical field, serving as a registered nurse and in several hospital administrative positions such as utilization review case manager, discharge planner/patient representative, director of health care review, where she started one of the county’s first pre-admission review program, hospital administrator, and interim vice president. May received a token of achievement from Fort Washington Medical Center, where she began and completed her career, at retirement for her many years of service. She also received a political appointment as chairman of the Human Relations Commission for Prince George’s County. May loved travel and community involvement with a local Filipino organization, the Zambalenos. May is predeceased by her mother, Escolastica Ragadio Pimentil and father, Basilio Balbuena Pimentil; her partner and companion, Carson Gene Ward, and her former husband, Vicente Sarmiento. She is survived by her sister, Miriam Pimentil Trader, and her brother, Basilio Miguel Pimentil. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, twelve great-nieces and great-nephews, and many colleagues, extended family, and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to May's Life Celebration on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, MD.
