Melvin Grier - Obituary

elvin “Mel” Grier, 82, a three year resident of the Heritage Harbour Community in Annapolis, MD and previously of Bowie, MD died October 11, 2008 of cancer at her home in Annapolis. Born, October 2, 1926 in New York, NY, he graduated from Syracuse University with a MBA Degree. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was employed as a Senior Contracts Manager fro Westinghouse/Northrop Grumman. Mr. Grier had a lifelong passion for theatre; participating or acting in over 30 amateur plays. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Contracts Management Association (NCMA). His memberships included St. Matthew's Methodist Church. He had a passion for aircraft and loved animals, especially Dalmatians. Beloved husband of Angela Joan Grier, whom he married July 18, 1976; father of Elizabeth Grier of Los Angeles, CA and Debbie Grier; stepfather of Stephan R. Izzi of West Friendship, MD, Robert V. Izzi of Riva, MD, Gregory R. Izzi of Riva, MD, Christian R. Izzi of Prince Frederick, MD and Marc V. Izzi of Baltimore, MD; brother of Leonard Goldberg of Yonkers, NY and Eugene Goldberg of Thousand Oaks, CA; also survived by 8 grandchildren. Friends are invited to Mr. Grier's Life Celebration on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 1:30pm until time of service at 2pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, P.O. Box 3471 Annapolis, MD 21403.
