M

ichael “Mike” H. Bagdasian, a 40-year resident of Harwood, MD and previously of Silver Spring, MD died on October 29, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of natural causes. Born August 29, 1917 in Norfolk, VA, he was raised in Washington, DC; he spent his summers in Woodland Beach. Mr. Bagdasian was self employed as Michael Bagdasian and Sons Plumbing. During WWII he served in the Merchant Marines, the 1st boat he was on was the Meyer London, which was torpedoed by the Germans off of the coast of Libya in 1944. His memberships included the Masonic Lodge in Silver Spring, MD and American Legion, Post 226 in Mayo, MD. His hobbies included fishing, boating, and spending time on the farm in Harwood. He loved the Chesapeake Bay, the Florida Keys, working with children in the community, volunteering. Mr. Bagdasian built the first playground at Shady Side Elementary School Playground, with his own funds. He is survived by his long time companion, Margery Calhoun; he was the devoted father of Harry Bagdasian of Silver Spring, MD, Tony Bagdasian of Harwood, MD, Rozanne “Dee” Lyons of Frederick, MD and Marcy Bagdasian-King of Harwood, MD; brother of Adam Bagdasian of Edgewater, MD and Helen Orange of Mt. Airy, MD. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Bagdasian is predeceased by two wives, Pauline Bagdasian, who died in 1998 and Mary Bagdasian, who died in 1984. Friends are invited to Mike's Life Celebration on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD from 1pm until service begins at 3pm. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 11am.
