Michael Edward Cox, Sr. - Obituary

ichael E. Cox, Sr., 78, a forty-six-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Essington, PA passed away on July 18, 2025 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. Born on October 24, 1946, in Darby, PA to the late Edward M. and Mary J. Cox, Michael attended St. James Catholic High School (1962-64) in Eddystone, PA and was a graduate of Ridley Park High School Class of 1965. He worked for Westinginghouse Corporation in Tinicum Township PA for more than 13 years before moving to Edgewater Maryland in 1979 starting his career as a union electrician with the IBEW Local 26 in Washington D.C. He was a member of Essington Fire Company for over 60 years, a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was also a former Naval Reservist. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, fishing, crabbing, hunting, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and hanging out in the GARAGE. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Linda M. Cox. He is survived by his two sons, Michael E. Cox, Jr. (Janine) and David C. Cox (Mary) all of Edgewater, MD; his sister, Darlene Durrett (Kenneth) of Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandchildren, Michael Allen Cox, Megan Cox, and Brooke Cox-Belt (Randy) and his great-grandson, Robby Belt. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Michael’s life on Monday, July 28 from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where a prayer service will begin at 6:30 pm.
