ichael "Squeet" McGeehan, a 19-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Philadelphia, PA, died on Thursday, December 31, 2015 following a five-and-a-half year battle with cancer. He was 61.
Born November 1, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Charles and Dorothy MCGeehan, Michael graduated from West Catholic Boys High School and Delaware County Community College. He began his federal career at the U.S. Mint in 1975. He later transferred to the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard before moving to the Annapolis area and joining the staff at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1996. Michael transferred to the White House in 2003 and remained there until 2013 when he retired after 38 years of service. Michael was a member of an archery club and bowling team. He enjoyed motorcycles, ceramics, gardening, fishing, hunting, bowling, lighthouses and woodworking. He especially enjoyed doing charity rides for pediatric cancer on his motorcycle.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles McGeehan.
Michael is survived by his wife of 29 years, Betsy; six children, Michael Sheffield of Philadelphia, PA, John Rex of Edgewater, MD, Sarah McGeehan of Baltimore, MD, Tiffany Olszewski of Swarthmore, PA, Maria Rex of Edgewater, MD and Kate Sheffield of Holmes, PA; and eight grandchildren, Lizzie Sigler of Baltimore, MD, Alex and Logan of Holmes, PA, Jack and Nick Olszewski of Swarthmore, PA and Trisden, Logan and Gavin Rex of Edgewater, MD.
Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Saturday, January 9 from 12pm until Michael's memorial service begins at 1:30pm. Interment private.
