ichael James McGivern, a resident of Harwood, Maryland of 54 years,
passed away peacefully on March 20th, surrounded by his family.
Mike was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Wheeling
Jesuit University. He later earned his master’s degree from Georgetown
University. Mike met his wife Cindy, a student nurse, after a baseball
injury in Pittsburgh, PA. Mike founded South County Construction in
1979 and served as President until his retirement in 2020, celebrating
40 years of business.
He was a member of Old South Country Club, a Board Member of the
Masonry Institute, member of the Knights of Columbus, and Old Crow Hunt Club.
Mike was a man of faith, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Their PopPop always had the best stories. In his free time, he enjoyed
fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He loved the beach,
crabbing, and farming.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Cindy; his
four children: Michele Galvin (Matt), Jennifer Lucas (Glenn), Cynthia
Walsh (Jim), and Mike McGivern (C3). He is also survived by ten
grandchildren: Luke and Annie Galvin; Michael and Nicole Lucas; Conor
and James Walsh; and Megan Attkisson (Peyton). Mason, Madden, and
Mitchell McGivern.
