Michael Cornelius Sweeney - Obituary

ichael Sweeney, 78, a resident of Berkeley Springs, WV for five years and previously of Leonia, NJ, died after a three year struggle with cancer on Monday, February 8 in Arnold, MD. Born on November 25, 1942 in New York, NY to the late Cornelius and Betty Sweeney, Michael served in the US Army from 1961 to 1964. During that time, he was stationed in France for more than 18 months. He also was a police officer with the NYPD and after retiring he began a second career with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Michael was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60 in Berkeley Springs and he enjoyed doing yard work around his house, attending yard sales and auctions, doing crossword puzzles and mostly he liked going to breakfast with his friends at Roy’s. He is survived by his children, Michael Sweeney of Annapolis, MD and Kim Sweeney of Watertown, NY; his sister, Anne Sweeney of Key West, FL; his grandsons, Michael Sweeney, Kory and Keith Davis and two great-grandchildren.
