ildred "Millie" I. Capone, a 47-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Ventura, CA and Harrisburg, PA, died on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at her home. She was 92.
Born August 3, 1924, in Franklin, VA to the late Aetius and Margaret Bradshaw, Millie was the owner of Beechnut Kennels in Edgewater, MD.
Throughout her long life, Millie’s interests varied widely. In addition to being a homemaker and excellent seamstress, she worked outside the home in her early years of marriage. After her kids were grown, she turned her love of animals into a variety of successes, including boarding horses, breeding Yorkies & Persian cats, pet grooming, and finally, founding Beechnut Kennels. She also enjoyed playing Bridge and loved a getaway to a casino for a few hands of Texas Hold’em, when the moon was right.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank N. Capone, whom she married in February of 1945 and a son, Frank N. Capone, Jr.
She is survived by two children, Edward Capone of Edgewater, MD and Linda Shockley of Ventura, CA; six grandchildren, Wayne Shockley of CA, Keith Shockley of Idaho, Kevin Capone of California and Alaina and Emily Capone, both of Edgewater, MD; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Thursday, February 2 from 10 a.m. until Millie's funeral service begins at 12 p.m. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
