n Loving Memory of Mildred Hutson Hill McGuthry Mildred Hutson Hill was born to the late Pariese and Essie Mae Hill on July 27, 1939, and was the oldest of ten children. She entered eternal rest at her home on November 20, 2024. Mildred grew up in Marietta, GA, and graduated from Lemon Street High School in 1957. As a “seasoned” student, she obtained her Associate of Arts in Sociology from Prince George’s Community College in 2006 and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Strayer University in 2010. She married Wesley Doyle McGuthry on December 24, 1957, and had three children: Andrea, John, and Tima. As a military spouse, she traveled to many places, including western Germany, Massachusetts, and Italy. The family finally settled in Maryland, where she joined Saint Paul United Methodist Church. Mildred enjoyed helping others, exploring new experiences, and supporting her family. She began working for Prince George’s Public Schools cafeteria assistant in 1979 and retired as a secretary in 2001. Not satisfied with retirement, she returned as a substitute teacher, secretary, and special education aide at schools where her grandchildren attended and her friends worked. Mildred’s retirement allowed her more time with family and friends. She was an active member of the St. Paul United Methodist Women, serving in several leadership positions. She traveled with her Hill family on several Caribbean Cruises. She visited China and Egypt with her travel club members. She toured several states, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada, and visited them along the east coast. She attended the Silver Senior program at Harmony Hall, where she was a member of the crochet club. She enjoyed luncheons, shows, and socializing in the Red Hat Society My Tyme chapter. She enjoyed several other hobbies, such as cooking, baking, reading, gardening, and sewing. She enjoyed donating her creations and time to those in need, including the Marine Corps Toys for Tots and the Tanner Community Resource Center food pantry. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wesley, brother Aaron Hill, and sisters Vicki Hill and Jerrylene Hill. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Andrea (Steve) McGuthry-Rogers, John (Katheryn) McGuthry, and Tima (Derris) McGuthry-Banks; grandchild Mathew McGuthry, Jason Rogers, Renee (Naqueel, Sr.) Banks-Jackson, and Kerrington Banks; great-grandson Naqueel “Bubbas” Jackson, Jr.; siblings Lorene Garrett, Alvin (Diane) Hill, Viola (Arthur) Wilson, Ada Newsome, Emily Hill, and Faye (Jesse) Bonner; sister-in-law Marian McClain; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a lifetime of friends. Acknowledgement (instead of cards) The family deeply appreciates your comforting messages of sympathy and encouragement. Your kind words, thoughts, and prayers have been a significant source of comfort to us. We also thank all who have helped with the home-going arrangements and those able to attend and lay their respects in person. Your presence today means a lot to us and enables us to celebrate her life. Please keep our family in your prayers as we adjust to our Mom, Gramma, sister, cousin, and friend as she rests in eternity. Relatives and friends are invited to Mildred's Life Celebration at St Paul United Methodist Church, 6634 St Barnabas Rd, Oxon Hill, MD 20745 on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow in the chapel at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy, Cheltenham, MD 20623 at 1:45 p.m.
