Mildred Elise Shellhouse - Obituary

ildred E. Shellhouse 1924 - 2018 Mildred E. Shellhouse passed from this life on September 5, 2018 at Hart Heritage Estates in Forest Hill, MD. She was 94 years old. Prior to December 2017, Mildred was a resident of Sebring, FL but spent summers at her home in Edgewater, MD. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Arthur (Art) A. Shellhouse and two beloved sisters, Dorothea LaHayne and Catherine Everett. Mildred was born on August 29, 1924 in Washington, D.C. to Catherine and Alfred Betts. Mildred worked at the European Law Division of the U.S. Library of Congress from 1958-1980. Mildred and Art enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the U.S. and Mexico and made several trips to Europe. She also enjoyed vegetable gardening and experimenting with new recipes, to the delight of her family. Mildred never lost her enthusiasm for life and adventure, even in her advancing years. Mildred is survived by three sons, Art Shellhouse and wife Arlene of Fallston, MD; Chuck Shellhouse and wife Jacque of Suwanee, GA; Dennis Shellhouse of Blue Ridge, GA. She is survived by four grandchildren: Seth Shellhouse of Venice, CA; Brooks Shellhouse of Fallston, MD; Kristin Johnson of Roswell, GA, and Kyle Shellhouse of Roswell, GA. She is survived by four great-grandchildren: Brooklynn, Harper, Hensley and Reid. Friends are invited to celebrate Mildred's life at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, September 11 from 11 AM until her funeral service begins at 12 PM.
