Anna M. “Grandma†Fleming, age 89, a 56 year resident of Edgewater and previously of Whitehall, MD, died on Friday June 25, 2010 at Atlantic General Hospital of congestive heart failure. Born April 23, 1921 in Baltimore, MD, Anna worked as a cashier for A&P Grocery Store and G.C. Murphy's in Annapolis. She also was a self employed antique dealer as well as a vendor at the city dock in Annapolis. Grandma was a lifetime member of the West Annapolis Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Hall of Fame. During her lifetime she provided shelter and care for over 52 children that she considered her own. She loved playing slot machines, cooking for and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Grandma also enjoyed volunteering at any function that took place at West Annapolis Volunteer Fire Dept. Anna was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Fleming; her three sons , Buddy, Butch and Bobby Lee Fleming; her daughter Millie Fleming and her brother Harry Durm. She is survived by a brother, Bunky Durm of Harwood, MD, a sister, Doris Cosden of Lothian, MD, her grandchildren, Penny Lynn Nichols of Edgewater, MD, Thomas E. Nichols of Willards, MD, Wendy L. Hartung of Broomes Island, MD, Susan “Frostee† Dove of Stephensville, MD and Lee Anne Fleming of Easton, MD and her great-grandchildren, Bobbi Lee and Rikki Lynn Hartung, Chelsea, Brady and Hailey Dove, Ty Nichols, Dylan Nash, Brianna and Gavin Fleming. Family and friends are invited to Grandma's Life Celebration on Monday, June 28, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 1:30pm. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
