ith heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mitchell Thomas Barkalow on December 24, 2025, in Harwood, Maryland. He was born in Freehold, New Jersey, and grew up in Clifton Park, New York. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Gloria. They were married for 36 years and built a life together filled with love and family. He is also survived by his son, Jack “Rich” Winemiller Jr. (Jocelyn), his sisters, Carol Barkalow and Janice Anderson (Rex), his sister-in-law, Stella Barkalow, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Barkalow, his brothers, Dick Barkalow and Jeff Barkalow, his daughter, Traci Donley, and Carol’s wife, Sheila Mutascio. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Kelly, Karlea, Collin, Lauryn, Shane, Emily, and Lindsey, and his great-grandchildren, Landon, Julia, Ava, River, and Cecilia. They all loved him deeply and will carry his memory with them. Mitchell lived life big. At 6’4”, you couldn’t miss him. He worked hard, and he played hard. He loved to ski when he was younger and always planned a great getaway each year. He never passed up a chance to make someone laugh. He was a skilled carpenter and a partner in his own construction company, Mortimer and Mitchell. To his grandkids, he was “Poppy,” and they were the light of his life. To the neighborhood kids, he was “Unc,” someone they could always count on. Mitchell saw his friends and neighbors as family. His life was full of memories and strong relationships that shaped his story. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. At 25, Mitchell was diagnosed with a heart condition. It wasn’t easy, but he faced it with strength and stubborn determination. He kept living life the way he wanted to. His family and friends will miss him more than words can say. A celebration of life will be held at a later date
