M

olly Owens Molter, 104, of Annapolis died on May 2 at her home at the Spa Creek Center. Molly was born in Brooklyn, NY. on May 31, 1909. Molly's family moved to Detroit in 1912 prior to settling back in Annapolis in 1925. Molly attended business school in Washington, DC in 1930 and became the Secretary to the President of St. John's College. In 1935 she married her first husband, Fred Warner of London, England. However, at the outbreak of World War II, she returned to the United States. In 1940, she joined her brothers at the Owens Yacht Company as a Public Relations officer and continued to work there until 1960. Her specialty was designing the cabin interiors of the boats. Molly later married Charles C. Molter in 1978, and they established their home on the water in Back Creek. She was a 40 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was awarded the Molly Owens Molter Day by the City of Annapolis on her 100th birthday in 2009. She enjoyed sailing and became known as "the lady boat builder." She helped start the Owens Yacht Marquee Club in 1996 for current and past owners of Owens Boats. She also enjoyed dancing and genealogy. Molly is predeceased by her husband, Charles, and her four brothers, John, Norman, Charles, and William Owens. Molly is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 10:30am at St. James Church located at 5757 Solomon’s Island Road in Lothian MD
