Monica Chaney - Obituary

onica Pegeen Miller Chaney, 49, a 27-year resident of Lothian, MD died at her home on January 14, 2015 following a 4-year battle with cancer. Born on April 2, 1965 in Camden, NJ, Monica received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics , with a minor in French, from Radford University and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola College. At the time of her death, Monica was an algebra teacher at South River High School. She previously taught pre-algebra at Chesapeake Middle School, and was an elementary school teacher at St. Mary’s School in Annapolis as well as St. Mary’s School in Landover. Monica enjoyed playing tennis, reading and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed playing soccer; she was a soccer coach for the Calverton School, the Anne Arundel County Youth Recreational League and Southern Senior High School. Monica was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West River. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert F. Miller. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, William Franklin Chaney, Jr.; a son, Alan Robert Chaney of Annapolis, a daughter, Jessica Calvert Chaney of Lothian; her mother, Blanche Miller Cosgrove of Bowie; a brother, Frank J. Miller of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Laura M. Treuth of Severna Park and Dana M. Noone of Dunkirk; and nieces and nephews, Luci Miller, Caitlin and Matthew Treuth, Ross, Ryan and Raleigh Noone, and Morgan and Richard Chaney. Friends are invited to Monica’s Life Celebration on Thursday, January 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, January 16 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 17 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville Road, West River, MD 20778. Interment private.
