Nancy Heister Campbell - Obituary

N

ancy Campbell, age 82, passed away at her home in Davidsonville, Maryland on August 11, 2021. Nancy is predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Irene Heister; her sister, Barbara Heister Seaman; and her grandson, Jacob Kenneth Campbell. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Donald E. Campbell and her sister Penny Heister Harshman, along with Penny’s husband Randy and her brother-in-law, Nort Seaman. She is also survived by her children: Jill Campbell Guice and her husband John of Manassas, Virginia; Amy Campbell Butterfield and her husband George of Fulton, Maryland; and Kyle Campbell and his wife Ziva of Chandler, Arizona. Nancy also has 6 beloved grandchildren – Ashley Van Scyoc, Adam Van Scyoc, Emily Guice, Carter Guice, Molly Butterfield and Joshua Campbell – who all called her “Grand-Nan”. Nancy Lee Heister was born December 11, 1938 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. She attended Hummelstown High School in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. Later, she went on to attend York Hospital Nursing School for her RN and then to the University of Maryland in College Park (where she joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority), then to University of Maryland Nursing School in Baltimore where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1962. While at the University, she met Don Campbell from Lynchburg, Virginia and they were married on June 20, 1964. They lived in the central Maryland area, finally settling in Harbor Hills in Davidsonville which they have called home since 1978. To know Nancy was to know music, food, family, and, of course her generosity. A Soprano, Nancy was a founding member of the Chesapeake Chorale and was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church Choir for over 30 years. She also auditioned and sang with the Berkshire Choral International Festival for many years and traveled to Prague in 2019 to perform Dvorak's Stabat Mater. Every member of the family could expect a personal serenade of Happy Birthday on their special day, no matter what. Nancy was well known for her many delicious meals, backyard cookouts, holiday parties and home baked desserts –most especially Grand-Nan’s special chocolate cake, beloved by her grandchildren. She could not go to someone’s house without bringing a dish to share. You could always count on her for special surprise deliveries of meals or treats - she was known to make full dinners for her children and drop them on their doorstops as a way to say, “I love you and thinking of you” during the last year of the pandemic. She even made an Apple Pie and made Don drive her to Philadelphia to drop it off on a moment’s notice. For 25 years, she volunteered at the Anne Arundel Medical Center Auxiliary. She was always so faithful and dependable. She loved to travel and was always off somewhere in their beloved travel trailer/camper in various locations across the eastern seaboard with annual visits to Emerald Isle, NC, Locust Lake State Park in PA, and Huntington Beach in South Carolina. She gave us a true example of a life well lived. A memorial gathering will be held for Nancy on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 6pm to 8pm at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, Maryland, 21037. A celebration and memorial service of Nancy's life will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 12pm at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD with a reception to follow from 2pm to 4 pm at the Harbor Hills Yacht Club, 1 Carson Cove, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
