Nancy Elizabeth Hartwell - Obituary

ancy Elizabeth (Woodruff) Hartwell, 74 of Shady Side, MD and previously of Newland, NC passed away on February 27, 2019 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Nancy was born on September 7, 1944 in San Antonio, TX to the late Roscoe and Elizabeth Woodruff. In-between raising her family, Nancy worked for the American Morgan Horse Association in Shelburne, VT and for Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC. She was a private person who enjoyed spending time with her family and pets, baking her famous Christmas cookies, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching birds and other wildlife. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hartwell; and two sisters, Susan Woodruff-Wilson and Janet Menart. She is survived by four children, Sean (Jill) and Scott (Lisa) Hartwell of Maryland; Eric (Mindy) Hartwell and Christina (Adam) Shelton of Texas; nine grandchildren, Ben, Kate, Alex, Nick, Will, Ally, Marisa, Sara and Jayda; two sisters, Louise Woodruff and Diane Sulima, and her beloved fur friends Poncho, Sophie and Riley. Friends are invited to celebrate Nancy's life on Saturday, March 9 beginning at 11:00 am followed by a service at 12:00 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
