ellie Legaspi Olaes (born Nelia Lacson Legaspi), 82, of Pasadena, MD, passed away, surrounded by her family at home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from natural causes. She was born on October 9, 1941, in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines, to the late Anastacio and Dominga Legaspi. Nellie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Santo Tomas. She worked as an elementary school teacher and later moved to the USA, where she worked in payroll at the United Mine Workers of America for many years. Later, she was a Hospital Admissions Officer at the Children's Hospital in DC before retiring. Her interests included cooking, dancing, singing, music, movies, helping others in need, and spending time with her family. Her “elephant memory,” generosity, faith in the Lord, and desire to pray will be remembered. Nellie is survived by her children Arthur, Dennis, and Michelle; grandchildren Katrina, Tiffany, Karlo, Sabrina, Josh, Denise, Jillian, Simone, and Emanuel; great- grandchildren Niko, Witten, Lena, Amadeo, and Wynry; nieces Louise and Chelsea and sister-in-law Lorna, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Miguel, her sister Lydia, and brothers Arthur and Jimmy. Relatives and friends are invited to Nellie's Life Celebration on Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, February 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, MD. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd., Waldorf, MD 20601.
