icholas J. DiPietro, “Nick”, a 56-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Wheaton, MD and Lanham, MD died on August 29, 2011.
Born January 12, 1922 in Washington, DC, he graduated from Northeast High School. Nick served as a radioman in the United States Coast Guard during WWII, flying missions in the North Atlantic to protect troops and convoys. He was employed as a pipefitter and supervisor for Washington Terminal Railroad, retiring after 43 years, simultaneously working as a night supervisor for Parking Management Inc. His hobbies included his dogs, working with his hands, debating politics, living on the water, hosting parties and spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Emma Irene DiPietro on August 30, 2000; two children, Frank and JoAnn DiPietro; three brothers, Enrico, Albert and Victor DiPietro; two sisters, Angelina DiPietro Whalen and Lucille DiMauro.
Nick is survived by his children, Nicholas J. DiPietro, Jr. of Greenwood, DE, James J. DiPietro of Stevensville, MD, and Tracy DiPietro of Edgewater, MD, Robert Straiton of Charlestown, MD and John Straiton of Annapolis, MD; five grandchildren, Justin, Jason, Paul, Melissa, Baylee and J.D. DiPietro; also survived by twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to Nick’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Thursday, September 1 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, September 2 at 10am. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.
