Nicholas R. Garofalo - Obituary

icholas R. Garofalo, 89, beloved husband of Anne G. Garofalo; father of David, Gary, Donna, Nicholas Jr. and Kristine, passed to his heavenly rewards on August 26, 2018. Born in Springfield, MA, Nick resided most of his adult life in Fort Washington, MD. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1951. Nick had a very accomplished career, most notably his distinguished service to our nation while a member of the CIA. Nick’s greatest accomplishments were being a loving husband to Anne, as well as a role model, mentor, and nurturing patriarch to their 5 children, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Nick’s legacy of love to his family and friends was returned to him through admiration, emulation, love and respect from all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Nick's life on Friday, August 31 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 1 at 9:30 am at the First Baptist Church of Crofton, 1690 Crofton Pkwy., Crofton, MD. Interment immediately following at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, Nick requested donations to the organizations that fuel hope for the challenges of many, specifically Narcolepsy Research (Giving.Stanford.edu then click “Stanford Medicine” then specify “Sleep Center-Narcolepsy Research”), Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF.org), and Rocky Mountain MS center (mscenter.org).
