Norma Jean Burtis - Obituary

orma Jean “Sco” Burtis, 83, a resident of Riva, MD for over 60 years, died March 13, 2022 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on September 22, 1938 in Annapolis, MD to the late Norman and Mary Hinton, Sco graduated from Annapolis High School in 1956. She worked for the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Sco loved joining her husband, Jim, in his fishing and crabbing pastimes on the South River. She was an avid sports fan, particularly horse racing, and enjoyed arts and crafts, playing Bingo, writing poems and making driftwood floral arrangements. Sco was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Burtis, Sr., who passed away in 2019, sisters Naomi White and Diane Hendrick. She is survived by her son, James (Ruth) Burtis of Riva; three sisters, Mary Hinton of Alexandria, VA, Kathryn Woodfield of Stevensville, MD and Janet (Bill) Chance of Annapolis; and her grandson, James Taylor Burtis, III.
