wen “Oatsey” Odell Bowen, Sr., 85, a fifty six year resident of Harwood and previously of Eastport died at his home on Friday, November 21 after a six month battle with melanoma. Born in Eastport on July 30, 1929 to the late Susan and Emory Bowen, Sr., Oatsey was a 1946 graduate of Annapolis High School and attended the University of Baltimore from 1952-53. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1951 and worked with the U.S. Postal Service in Annapolis from 1958 to 1990. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, stamp and coin collecting. In addition to his parents, Oatsey was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Russell and two brothers, Charles and Emory Bowen, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Ford Bowen whom he married in 1955; two sons, Owen Odell Bowen, Jr. and Bruce Wilson Bowen both of Harwood, MD; three sisters, Doris Belcher and Carol Ann Bowen both of Annapolis and Marjorie Engberg of Salisbury, MD; three brothers, Milton Bowen of Arnold, MD and Edgar and Bennett Bowen of Annapolis; two grandchildren, Gregory Bowen of Edgewater, MD and Angelina (Chris) Cookson of North Carolina and three great grandchildren. Friends are invited to Oatsey’s Life Celebration on Monday, November 24 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at 11:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Annapolis.
