atrick Joseph Byrne “Joe”, 80, a resident of Annapolis, MD, formerly of Crofton, MD, died on Sunday, December 16 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on September 9, 1938 in Bayonne, NJ to the late Patrick Joseph and Christina Noel Byrne, Joe graduated from St. Peter's High School in Staten Island, NY in 1956. He attended St. Peter's College and Rutger’s University. Joe served in the U.S. Army for 6 years, 2 years on active duty stationed in Korea and 4 years as a reservist. Joe then enjoyed a lengthy career in the pharmaceutical industry, retiring from Abbott Labs in 2004. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post 7, The Lost Patrol, the Heritage Harbour Chorus, the Heritage Harbour Players and A.A., where he helped countless people throughout the 49 years he was involved with the program. He enjoyed music, hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren. Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Anne Byrne; his daughters, Anne Noel (Husband Christopher Mikesell), Aileen (Husband Carl Gitchell and children, Sean Patrick, Kelly Anne and Colin Joseph), and Allison Lynn, all of Annapolis, MD; and brother William F. Byrne of Palm Coast, FL. Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Noel Hughes. Friends are invited to celebrate Joe's life at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM where his funeral service will be held on Friday, December 21 at 11 AM. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans’ Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd., Crownsville, MD on Thursday, December 27 at 1 PM. Memorial contributions in Joe’s name may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122.
