ace Benjamin Rose, 86, of Annapolis, MD died at his home on Saturday, January 3, 2009. Mr. Rose was born March 10, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY and attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg, PA, from 1940-1943. He served in WWII with the Eleventh Armored Division in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He joined the Central Intelligence Group (later the C.I.A.) in 1947 and served with the C.I.A. in Austria, Germany and Washington, D.C. until formal retirement in 1973, thereafter maintaining a periodic contractual relationship with the Agency until 1993. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Finch) Rose who died in August 2000; father of Donna R. Hilverts and Gary W. Rose; brother of Ernest D. Rose; he is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grand children. He is also survived by his dear and devoted friend Audrey Umpleby and her family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11AM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Inurnment will be private at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the D.A.V., P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
