atricia Ann “Sweet Girl” Cook (Mitchell), age 85, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Annapolis, Maryland. Born on October 14, 1939, in Washington, D.C., to Samuel Tilden Mitchell, Jr. and Louise Osie (Deavers) Mitchell. She lived a full life married for 43 years to Walter "Cookie" Cook, Jr. until his death in 2000. They had three children, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is marked by resilience, compassion, and a deep commitment to her family and community. Patricia grew up in Morningside, Maryland with 8 of her siblings before marrying Cookie in 1957. Her journey as a devoted homemaker began in Suitland, Maryland before settling in the community of Turkey Point Island in Mayo, Maryland. In 1976, she began working at YMCA Camp Letts where she spent ten meaningful years as a secretary. She later found fulfillment working with Hospice at Anne Arundel General Hospital before concluding her professional life as a secretary at Fishback Associates (formerly Weller, Fishback and Bohl) in 1997. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Pat was an active member of both Mayo United Methodist Church and the former Parkwood United Methodist Church. Retirement took her and Cookie to Calabash, North Carolina where she continued to serve with Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach, NC. Through these communities, she nurtured her spiritual growth and extended her giving spirit to those in need. This mission reflected the same generosity that defined every aspect of her life. After Cookie’s passing, she returned to Maryland to be close to family. Family was at the heart of everything Pat did. She is lovingly remembered by her son Michael Cook of Port Charlotte, FL; daughter Sharon Lowery (husband Brian) of Edgewater, MD; granddaughter Kasey Honeycutt (husband Corey Cruz) of Melbourne, FL; grandsons Joshua Lowery (partner Cierra Hood) of Willards, MD and Shane Lowery of Edgewater, MD; great-grandsons Waylon Lowery and Ezra Cruz; sister Florence Miller of Mechanicsville, MD; brothers Frank Mitchell of Owings, MD, Melvin Mitchell (wife Ann) of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Kenneth Mitchell (wife Sharon) of Bowdoinham, ME. Sister-in-laws Margaret Mitchell of Brandywine, MD and Holly Mitchell of Hartly, DE. She now joins in eternal rest her beloved husband Walter “Cookie” Cook Jr.; son Walter "Allen" Cook, parents Samuel and Louise (Deavers) Mitchell; brothers William "Billy" Mitchell, Thomas “Mike” Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Allen Mitchell, Roland Mitchell; and sister-in-laws Hassie Mitchell, Cecilia "Cissy" Mitchell. Patricia found joy in the simple pleasures of life—planting flowers each spring in her garden, attending many Redskins games back "in the day", embarking on cherished beach vacations, traveling all over the US with friends and family. She loved all the many family summer cookouts and gatherings throughout the years. She enjoyed thrift shopping with her sister and anyone willing to tag along. Her grandchildren were her life! She made the most out of every moment with them. Whether you were family or a stranger met by chance, Patricia had a way of spreading joy wherever she went. In her final years she continued to spread that joy at Brightview Senior Living where she lived. She met new friends, enjoyed many special events and outings. She was affectionately nicknamed “Pattycakes”. Each day was full of activities and fun! They once had their own Olympics, and she won a GOLD medal. Her Brightview family was very special to her and her family. A survivor in every sense of the word, Patricia lived with strength and purpose. Her enduring legacy is one of love, faith, perseverance, and an unwavering desire to uplift those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Mayo United Methodist Church 1005 Old Turkey Point Road, Edgewater, MD. The family invites you to join them for a meal in the fellowship hall following the service. Donations can be made in Patricia's honor to Mayo United Methodist Church.
