Patricia Kay McDermott - Obituary

P

atricia Kay McDermott passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at the age of 91. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life was a reflection of love, kindness, and strength. She lived her faith daily—through her generosity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family—and now rests in the peace of God’s eternal care. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patricia moved to Washington, DC after marrying, and began the joyful work of raising her family. She later settled on 36th Avenue in Hyattsville, Maryland, where she lived for many decades and built a home filled with love, laughter, warmth, and faith. In retirement, she relocated to Annapolis, MD, where she remained active in her community—volunteering, enjoying Red Hat outings, and gathering often with friends and family. One of her greatest joys was caring for her great-grandchildren. She shared a special closeness with Ryder and Rylee, who lived nearby and brought her daily joy. Patricia’s love was constant, and her hands were always extended to others, a true reflection of her Christian spirit. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, John Joseph McDermott (Gail), her parents, Ray and Olive Price, and eight siblings. She is survived by her children James Jerome McDermott (Kim), Jennifer Joy McDermott, Jacalyn McDermott Bennett (Irvin), Jeffery Jay McDermott (Tina), and Julie Joyce McDermott. She was a proud grandmother to Jessica (Paul), Michelle (Steven), Teri, Katie (Jonny), Jimmy, Jodi, Joey, Cheryl (Justin), Taylor, Daniel (Kristin), Candice (Josh), Holly (Greg) and Morgan (Joel), and a beloved great-grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren. Though we grieve her passing, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life. Patricia lived her life with grace, laughter, strength, humility, and a steadfast faith that now carries her home. Her love continues to live on in each of us, and we take comfort knowing she is in the presence of the Lord she trusted so deeply. All services will be private, in accordance with Patricia’s wishes.
