Patrick J. Tackney - Obituary

P

atrick John Tackney, 54, of Annapolis, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10 of natural causes. Born on April 14, 1971, in Greensboro, NC, Patrick was the youngest of four children born to the late Patricia and Neal Tackney. Raised in Durham, he attended Jordan High School, where his love of sports was already evident. Whether running track, playing football, or cheering passionately from the stands, Patrick carried an enthusiasm for athletics throughout his life. He even joined ballet to help with his football skills and was nicknamed “Twinkle Toes Tackney”, a proud fact he shared with his family. Patrick’s devotion as a Duke and Cowboys fan was legendary among friends and family. He passed his love for athletics, and his beloved teams, onto his family. His devotion to sports was clear, but nothing compared to the joy he felt when surrounded by family. Time with his children, nieces, nephews, and extended family was very important to him. Some of Patrick’s happiest childhood memories were formed during summers spent in Annapolis with his cousins, fishing, crabbing, bike riding, and embracing every moment on the water. Those early experiences helped shape his lifelong love of family, laughter, and togetherness. Patrick built a successful career in telecommunications, traveling across the world as a consultant. Wherever his work took him, he formed relationships with ease, approaching others with genuine warmth, curiosity, and kindness. Colleagues quickly became friends that left lasting impressions through his generosity, humor and kindness. Patrick had a gift for making people feel welcome. His quick wit, playful sense of humor, and unmistakable laugh could light up any room. He was generous with his time, always ready to lend a hand or simply show up when someone needed him. He was known to many as a true friend. Above all else, Patrick was a devoted and deeply proud father. He spent countless hours coaching his children on the fields and basketball courts, not just teaching them how to play, but instilling confidence, teamwork, and resilience. The sidelines were brighter with his humor, and his knowledge of the game made every event not only fun but memorable. In addition to his parents, Patrick was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Tackney. He is survived by his true love, his wife, Heather; his cherished children, Alexis, Hunter and Ashley, who were his proudest accomplishments and greatest joy; his siblings, Kelly (Chris) Jarvis and Neal (Diane) Tackney and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Patrick will be remembered for his big heart, his unwavering love for his family, and the joy he brought into the lives of others. His legacy lives on in the countless memories he created and in the people who were fortunate enough to be loved by him. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Friday, February 20 at 9:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Club 164 (club164.org). Condolences may be made using the Memories tab on this page.
