aul Charles Luthringer, 78, died on June 3, 2014, in Annapolis, Maryland, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Elisabeth Ann Luthringer, whom he married in 1996; three daughters, Arlene Bardales (husband, Oscar) of Paramount, California; Diane Clements and Jeanette Luthringer, of Wes Des Moines, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Michelle Bunnemeyer ( husband, Peter Grulke) of Exeter, New Hampshire, and Erica Lanio (husband, Juergen) of Limburg, Germany. He is survived by six grandchildren: Daniel and Andrew Bardales; Victoria Luthringer Marsden (husband, Clint;) Paul Clements (wife, Autumn;) Austin Clements; and Lydia Grulke, and one great-child, Owen Clements. He is also survived by his brothers, Gerald Luthringer (wife, Margie) and Otto Luthringer (wife, Mary) of Erie, Pennsylvania, along with his former wife, Margaret Volk Luthringer, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Luthringer, and brothers, Thomas and Donald. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on June 24, 1935, Paul was the eldest of five sons of Otto and Dorothy Dudenhoeffer Luthringer. He attended St. John’s School, Cathedral Prep, and Gannon College in Erie. He graduated with a BME degree from the University of Detroit, and an MBA degree from Michigan State University. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and a member of Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Honor Society) and Phi Kappa Theta (National Social Fraternity.) During his long career, Paul developed and/or constructed projects in seven states, including Maryland. Local projects include the development and construction of the Ginger Cove Life Care Retirement Community, and the western campus for Anne Arundel Community College along Rt. 2. He also renovated many of the older buildings on campus. Some of his happiest memories were of family gatherings at the Luthringer family cottage in Sterrettania, Pennsylvania. He was devoted to his wife, his family, and his Roman Catholic faith, which sustained him throughout his illness. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Annapolis. A funeral Mass will be held at St. John Neumann Church at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 12, a reception to follow at the Doubletree Inn on Holiday Court off of Riva Road in Annapolis . Interment will be at Resthaven Mausoleum, West Des Moines, Iowa. The family requests memorial contributions to Hospice of the Chesapeake, in lieu of flowers.
