he journey began in 1933 on a cold winter night in northern New York. After early education, Pauline Rose Poirier Cook graduated Cum Laude from Syracuse University in 1954 and married a young Air Force lieutenant, Douglas Cook, that same year. Like all military families, they moved dozens of times, living in New York, Virginia, Texas, Arizona, Japan, Okinawa, and finally in Heritage Harbor, Maryland. Pauline attended graduate school at the University of Arizona and received a Masters Degree from Central Michigan University in 1978. Her interests were varied from gardening, stained glass, golf, and HAM radio, but her passions were family and travel. Pauline was the mother of three highly successful children, Linda Pittelli (Frank) of Edgewater, Maryland, Laren Durilla (Franklyn) of Mt. Airy, Maryland, and Gordon Cook (Virginia) of Midvale, Utah. Their travels included 35 years of motor-homing every state, all of the provinces of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Scandinavia, British Isles and a trip down the Mississippi River with the RV on a barge. It doesn’t end there; trips to China, train trips in Europe and the Trans-Siberian Railroad, the Panama Canal, cruises, Mexico, and lots of fun at Disneyland. It’s been quite a journey and she would do it all again. In addition to her parents, Pauline was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Doug, in February 2022, as well as her only sibling, Dr. Omer Poirier and his wife Isabella Foster of West Palm Beach, Florida. She is survived by her children; three grandchildren, Bryan Nelson (Samantha) of Coconut Creek, Florida, Alex Cook (Daisy) of West Jordan, Utah, and Sandra Pittelli of Baltimore, Maryland; two great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Florida, Texas, Washington, and Oregon. Pauline started her final journey on November 5, 2026. A Celebration of Life is currently being planned, along with a private ceremony at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pauline’s name to Fisher House Foundation, Inc. (PO Box 791598 Baltimore, MD 21279). Online condolences may be made using the Memories tab on this page.
