alph “Peanut†Mulligan,74, of Lanham, Md. and formally of Edgewater, Md. died from cancer on January 15 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on February 18,1935 in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the I.U.E.C. Local # 10 as an elevator constructor after serving time in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Peanut was a proud lifetime member of the American Legion which included memberships in the American Legion Post #226 in Mayo, Md. and the Sons of the American Legion, Post #108 in Cheverly, Md. Also, for almost 40 years, Peanut was a dedicated and active volunteer for the Maryland Special Olympics.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Mulligan, whom he was married to for over 47 years before she died in 2003. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Jimmy, Billy and Skippy Mulligan and sisters, Ginny Stringer and Elizabeth Bateman.
Peanut is survived by his wife, Merrijeanne, whom he married in 2007: his sons Michael (Lynne) of Dunkirk, Md. and Richard (Karalyn) Mulligan of Edgewater, Md; his daughter, Kelli Mulligan of Dunkirk, Md. and his sister, Ella Gould of Prince Frederick, Md. Peanut is also survived by his Granddaughters, Julie, Meghan, Kelsey, Madison, Kaleigh, Paige, Keri, Susie and one grandson, T. J.
Friends are invited to Peanut's Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Tuesday at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home,2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where a funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday January 20. Interment will be held on Friday January 22, at 11:30am at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. An American Legion service will be held at 7pm on Tuesday.
