P

earl Bullen Brashears, 97, a resident of Cape Coral, FL and formerly of Mayo, MD, passed away on May 26, 2018 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on February 6, 1921 in Claiborne, MD to the late Samuel and Bertie Bullen, Pearl attended Claiborne Elementary School and graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1938. She worked at Beverly Beach from 1938 to 1942 and then pursued a full-time career as wife and mother. When her children were young, Pearl taught Bible and Sunday School classes at Mayo United Methodist Church. An avid Baltimore Orioles fan, Pearl also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and working in her flower garden. And she was well known for her crabcakes. Pearl was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, William L. Brashears, Sr., who died in 2008 and her brothers, Joshua and William Bullen. She is survived by her son, William L. Brashears, Jr. of Edgewater; her daughter, Bonnie B. Ayers of North Fort Myers, FL; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Pearl’s life with her family on Friday, June 1, from 10:30am until her funeral service begins at 11:30am at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Burial will follow at Mayo United Methodist Church Cemetery.
